Grading Guide

Second Hit Golf Balls products begin as lost to found golf balls in over 200 golf courses around the United States and Europe.

Here teams scour the fairways, bunkers, and water hazards of the course to retrieve lost golf balls. The balls are then cleaned.

At the rate of 40,000 balls an hour, industrial washing machines wash the dirt off the balls, after which they are dried off by powerful dryers. The balls are then soaked overnight in a specially developed solution, to remove stubborn vestiges of dirt and to restore their luster. The balls are then palletised and shipped to us. .

Sorting and grading demand the most skills from Second Hit Golf Balls employees. Experienced graders, sitting at huge sorting tables under white lights, manually place the golf balls into different bins based on grades, brands, and types of balls.

Rather than trying and baffle our customers like some other retailers with complicated grading systems like AAAA/AAA or 'Pearl 1', we at Second Hit keep our grading system clear and simple.

Pearl-A Mixed Packs
Pearl grade golf balls have the appearance of a new golf ball, will not show any signs off been played,

Will be shiny in appearance and "tacky" in your hand. Note some balls may have a logo or ink spot.

GRADE 'A':  Also known as: Grade 1, Pearl 1, AAA.
 
These are excellent condition golf balls that just miss our Pearl Grade.
They may contain minor marks, small scratches / scuffs or some very minor discolouration but on the whole will be in excellent condition.
There are no Refinished, X-Out or Practice balls in the pack.
 
These Pearl-A Mixed Packs golf balls will consist of at least 50% Pearl, that % goes higher on balls with harder covers that dont scuff as easy as tour calibre balls. Harder balls will have over 75% Pearl in most packs

 

GRADING GUIDE

PEARL GRADE:
Also known as:

  • Mint
  • AAAA
 These balls have both the appearance and feel of a ball that has been hit only once! They are our best quality balls and as such are very hard to tell from new. Some balls may display a logo and/or a small player's ink mark. There are no Refinished, X-Out or Practice balls in the pack.

GRADE 'A':
Also known as:

  • Grade 1
  • Pearl 1
  • AAA

These are excellent condition golf balls that just miss our Pearl Grade. They may contain minor marks, small scratches/scuffs or some very minor discolouration but on the whole will be in excellent condition. There are no Refinished, X-Out or Practice balls in the pack. These balls represent great value for money and are our No.1 seller.

GRADE 'B':
Also known as:

  • Grade 2
  • AA
 These balls will have failed classification as Grade A due to excessive pen marks, larger scuffs or (in the majority of cases) heavier discolouration/fading. All the balls are still perfectly playable and ideal for a high handicapper or beginner. There are no Refinished, X-Out or Practice balls in the pack.
PRACTICE GRADE
Also known as:
  • Shag
  • Grade C
 These balls are unbeatable value and are appropriate for range and green practice only. Balls marked "Refurbished", "Refinished", "Practice" or "X-Out" go in this grade, no matter their condition. All balls will be heavily worn but there are no split or out of round balls in the pack.
